I don’t give a damn about my hair today.

There’s nothing like a dash of asthma to make everyone’s Saturday miserable, especially for my 5 year old baby boy. All I can do today is pander to all his needs. Cuddles, food, drink, games (thank goodness for my iphone!) and for me, well a cup of Lady Grey  tea in one of my new favourite mugs is good enough.

There’s something so soothing about tea and  drinking it out of a pretty mug makes it all the nicer.

There’s one think that I can guarantee today….no one’s going to be admiring my hair!  In fact it probably looks just like the hairstyle in this picture, and my care factor would be zero even if i did look like this. All I care about today is being a mother and getting through the day.
Piss off asthma, you're an unwanted guest that I never want to see!  I just had to get that off my chest!
Hope you're having a great Saturday.

Is Hairdressing an Art?

Hairdressers create. They create a look .  A look that’s been described to them by you. To be able to visualize something  and create it is art.

You’re putting trust in the ability of another to create something that you want. If this wasn’t important you would cut your own hair or get a friend to cut it for you and hope for the best!

Braids, French rolls, plaits, layers, perms, highlights, colours, blow waves, straightening,  bowl cuts and mullets! These are all creations, even the ones we'd rather forget.

Is it more than just a learned technique that’s required to be a hairdresser? I always thought it was.  It’s something that I’ve been wondering recently as it seems to be getting harder and harder to get the right style.

Who else but some creative soul could have produced this beautiful style?

Even this style required an artistic vision!

“She was the most beautiful creature on Earth - her hair said so in that language only hair can speak.”

What is my hair saying today? This is what I wish my hair was saying today, just like in this photo of Brigitte Bardot. Such effortless style, perfect for any moment, any era. Unfortunately my hair is saying "how could you let them do this to me and why is this style so.....bad?" Unfortunately some things are out of my control but on a positive note, at least I was left with enough hair to attempt this beautiful do.

Another one of my favourite quotes, nothing to do with hair but it's just so true!

“It doesn't matter where you're from - or how you feel... There's always peace in a strong cup of coffee.”

― Gabriel Bá
Ok, this quote needs no analysing. Coffee, silence, my thoughts and I = bliss.

My unsexy hair…..here it is!

It’s such a good feeling when your hair starts to sit better after an ordinary cut. Soon enough I won’t be calling it a frumpy cut, although that’s still a few weeks away.

Notice the mushroom silhouette?  Just what I said that I was trying to avoid.

Why is it that every time I get a haircut I always see a woman with the most beautiful, long hair?  Then regret fills my every pore!

I guess what’s important is that each day I'm one day closer to how I want my hair to be and I’m able to use some gorgeous accessories to get me by until then.

I've discovered these gorgeous mimco hair accesories and I'm really loving the art deco styles. Hope you like them!

If all else fails a ponytail will save the day!

“Some of the worst mistakes in my life were haircuts”

― Jim Morrison

I’ts amazing the effect a haircut can have on us, good or bad.

Tips to getting the hairstyle that you want.

There are some easy steps that you can take to ensure you’re communicating exactly what type of haircut you want to your hairdresser. They aren’t mind readers after all so be specific,  give them  your ideas and listen to see if you’re both on the same page.

Take a picture of what you want.
Do you want layers? How long do you want them?  Do you want them to be in proportion to the rest of your hair, not up to your ears if your hair is waist length?

Take a picture of what you don’t want.  If you don’t know what you want,  then tell them what you don’t want. Isn’t it much better to say ‘‘get away from me with that razor immediately!’’ than to say ‘’Why do I have rats tails?’’

Be realistic …If you have jet black hair, asking for platinum blonde may not be ideal. Or if you are time poor (like me) a style that needs one hour a day styling isn’t going to work.

Consider your lifestyle. Do you leave the house only after spending most of the morning straightening or blow waving? (No way!)  Do you prefer a quick dry off and then out the door (yep, that’s me!) but still with some sort of style?

Ideally these steps will get you one step closer to getting the hairstyle that‘s just perfect for you.  It may even remove your scissor phobia!

If you’ve taken these steps and you still walk out looking like Carol Brady, then always remember that you’re not alone!  When this happens to me I go and  have a coffee, eat something delicious and go and buy something.  Perhaps you could  buy a hat or some leg warmers to shift  the attention away from your hair!

If you walked out looking foxy  and you  were  given exactly what you wanted then please please please let us know where you went, who did it and  what did they do?

Spread the word sista!

I’ve made a decision about my hair.

It can only ever be  long as it was 4 weeks ago before I made the decision to cut it which I’m sure was influenced by pmt, or it’s going to be cut above my shoulders in a similar style to the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor like in this photo.  Such glamour and elegance, can I pull it off I wonder? That would mean another haircut and I’m determined that the next one is going to be a good one.

Just so you can remove the image from your mind of the mullet that I left you with in my previous post, here’s a gorgeous picture for you of what i consider to be the epitome of glamour.
